1,231 Cloud Desktops VOI PC Reuse 80% Less Hardware Maintenance

Project Overview

Kunming University of Science and Technology has deployed 1,231 integrated cloud desktops across its Xinying and Chenggong campuses through multiple construction phases. The deployment covers six specialized laboratories and 50 multimedia classrooms at Xinying, plus six specialized laboratories and unified management of 289 multimedia classrooms at Chenggong.

OS-EASY established a unified desktop cloud platform across campuses and colleges to extend hardware lifecycles, support diverse teaching environments, and centrally manage both new and existing multimedia devices.

User Requirements

  • Flexible resource allocation: Extend hardware use to its physical lifecycle and allocate desktop resources on demand.

  • Multi-disciplinary teaching: Deliver and switch between multiple desktop environments without overloading a single operating system.

  • Unified multimedia management: Centrally operate existing and newly deployed teaching terminals across campuses.

Solution

01Cloud resource pool: A cloud service data center built on 15 servers unifies computing, storage, desktops, and applications. CPU, memory, and storage can be allocated to each desktop as required.
02Low-maintenance all-in-one terminals: New cloud classrooms use integrated terminals that reduce hardware maintenance by 80%.
03Multiple teaching environments: Separate operating environments deliver software by discipline, allowing student selection or teacher-directed switching.
04VOI reuse and mobile teaching: Eighty existing PCs at Chenggong were migrated to VOI desktops for remote multimedia-terminal management, supported by the teaching network drive.
